On the 08th, February, 2019, the WAR’s hotline received a call from a resident of Thu Dau Mot city, Binh Duong Province, wishing to transfer an endangered hawksbill sea turtle to conservation station. After receiving the news, we cooperated with Binh Duong Forest Protection Department to receive and take immediately the sea turtle to Dau Tieng Wildlife Conservation Station where this species has been being saved and cared by WAR’s staff before returning to the wild.
It is reported that the female hawksbill sea turtle was saved from illegal trade in Binh Duong Province with around 2 kilograms in weight. It has been in poor health, moreover, because of improper care for a long time.
This is an endangered species, prioritized for protection in Decree 06/2019/ND-CP dated 22/01/2019 of the Government.
WAR does welcome the spirit of voluntariness for transferring endangered wildlife from resident and thank efficient cooperation of Binh Duong Forest Protection Department.

Kien Giang Province, dated 15 Dec 2015 – Wildife At Risk (WAR) cooperated with Kien Giang and Ben Tre Provincial Forest Protection Departments to rescue seven juvenile primates including Pig_tailed Maccaque, Pileated Gibbon and Long-tailed Maccaque

The juvenile primates were voluntarily handed over to Ben Tre Provincial Forest Protection Department by a local people in the province. The primates are now rescued at Hon Me Wildlife Rescue Station.

Arrived Hon Me Wildlife Rescue Station, the primates received health check immediately by WAR’s staff. They will be well taken care and rehabilitated till they are grown up and ready to be released back to the wild.

In Vietnam, primates are commonly hunted and traded as pet and for meat and medicine. Many people believe that eating primate meat or drinking alcoholic made from primate’s parts make them stronger and healthier. In reality, they could be infected by unexpected diseases from the wildlife. In addition, the illegal consumption of primate products pushes the primate to the brink of extinction.

Let’s say No to endangered primate products so that our children could still be able to observe it in the wild

Ho Chi Minh City, dated 13 Nov 2015, Wildlife At Risk (WAR) cooperated with Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department and District 12 Environmental Police to rescue four individuals of Javan Pangolins. The four individuls including two males and two females weighed roughly 13 kg. All of them were either exhausted or in bad conditions. One male and one female were injured at its legs due to snare traps.

Fortunately, the four were seized by District 12 Environmental Police and transfered immediately to Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue Station. Otherwise, the four willdife could have been killed for meat or medicine. The four are now being taken well care by WAR staff.

Panglolin is categorised as Endangered accroding to the Vietnam Red Book. In Vietnam, Pangolins are commonly hunted and killed for meat or medicine. Forest lost is an other reason pushing this species to the brink of extinction.

Do not consume any product from Pangolin to save this endangered wildlife.

Currently, the Moon Bear is being taken cared at Hon Me Wildlife Rescue Station, Kien Giang Province. This Moon Bear might spend the rest of its life here. This is a big challenge for WAR.

Moon Bear is categorised as Endangered (EN) in the Vietnam Red Book. Illegal hunting and capturing for bile exploitation together with habitat loss due to deforestation are main causes for the bears to be endangered in Vietnam.

Bear bile is not a magical cure. There are many alternatives to bear bile that everyone can use to protect bear.

Ho Chi Minh City, dated 16 January 2015 – Wildlife At Risk (WAR) received 30 individuals of Javan Pangolin, weighed roughly 150kilogramme total of which 12 are male. On previous day, WAR also received two individuals of King Cobra. These endangered wildlife were seized by Ho Chi Minh City Environmental Police and Forest Protection Department from two illegal trading cases and are waiting to be processed

Of the 30 pangolins, one lost a fore paw, one lost a behind paw and one was heavily injured at its tail. All of these endangered wildlife are being recovered at Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue Station.

The rescue of such a large number of Pangolin this time is a challenge for Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue Station. Pangolin feeds on ant’s eggs. Each pangolin may eat 500gram of ant’s eggs each day while ant’s eggs are pretty rare and expensive.

Jan Pangolin is categorised as Endangered (EN) in the Vietnam’s Red Book, while King Cobra is in the brink of extinction; it is categorised as Critically Endangered (CR) in the Vietnam’s Red Book. Both species are severely hunted and traded for meat. Pangolin scale could be used as a traditional medicine.

Join us save Pangolin and King Cobra by not consuming illegal products from those species.
